Organized in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s The Civic Trust and supported by local chambers of commerce across Maryland, the National Civics Bee®: Maryland State Finals is an annual competition that encourages middle school students from public, private, charter and home schools to engage in civics, contribute to their communities and flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. Keynote Speaker: Secretary Paul Monteiro, Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation
Governor Wes Moore nominated Monteiro to serve as Maryland's first Secretary of Service and Civic Innovation in 2023. Monteiro leads the newly created Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation which promotes service and volunteerism throughout the state, and includes Maryland Corps and Service Year Option programs.
