Organized in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s The Civic Trust and supported by local chambers of commerce across Maryland, the National Civics Bee®: Maryland State Finals is an annual competition that encourages middle school students from public, private, charter and home schools to engage in civics, contribute to their communities and flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. Event Details

The Maryland Chamber Foundation will host the National Civics Bee®: Maryland State Finals competition on June 8, 2024 at Bowies State University.

9:00 a.m.–9:30 a.m.: Civics Bee finalists arrive for pre-competition meeting

9:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m.: Guest check-in

10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon: National Civics Bee®: Maryland State Finals competition

12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.: Lunch and prize reception open to all event attendees

Keynote Speaker: Secretary Paul Monteiro, Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation. Governor Wes Moore nominated Monteiro to serve as Maryland's first Secretary of Service and Civic Innovation in 2023. Monteiro leads the newly created Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation which promotes service and volunteerism throughout the state, and includes Maryland Corps and Service Year Option programs.

2024 Bee Judge: Senator Nick Charles. Member of the Maryland Senate representing District 25, Prince George's County. Veteran of the United States Air Force.

2024 Bee Judge: Delegate Dana M. Stein. Member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 11B, Baltimore County. Serves as speaker pro tempore of the House.

2024 Bee Judge: Tami Watkins. Director of Government & Regulatory Affairs at Comcast. She has also held positions at Maryland Business For Responsive Government, Rockville Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce, Deloitte, among others.
